March 1, 2011- Earlier this morning in West Hollywood, pop singer, Christina Aguilera, was arrested for suspicion of public intoxication and Matthew Rutler, her boyfriend, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.
Aguilera was a passenger in a car driven by Rutler when police officials noticed the car driving erratically at 2:45 AM. It was reported that deputies witnessed Rutler speeding, squealing his tires and “burning rubber” on the Sunset Strip.
After the stop, deputies determined Rutler was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. Deputies noticed Aguilera, who was in the vehicle, was extremely intoxicated so for her own safety she was also taken into custody. According to Steve Whitmore, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Spokesperson: “[Aguilera] was not capable of taking care of herself. She was incapacitated. She was cooperative. She was not belligerent in any way whatsoever. She was just intoxicated.”
Aguilera was released, after sobering up, later this morning at 7:30 AM out a back entrance to avoid a crowd of paparazzi. According to Whitmore, the arrest will go on her record but the arrest report will not be forwarded to prosecutors due to the circumstances not meriting criminal charges. Rutler was released later this morning but unlike his girlfriend, he was swarmed by more than 30 photographers as he left the station.
